In Brisbane airport,
Sitting in the lounge,
Waiting for my flight,
To board.
For a trip to Sydney,
Here I go.
A year ago today,
We all remember it well,
My big sister,
Was attending to,
A hospital bed.
Her first love,
She married in 1984,
He was not well,
Many unknowns ahead.
There was hope,
This was temporary.
Little did we know
The plan that was written.
The updates kept coming,
They didn't look good.
I felt deeply for my big sister,
I knew she wouldn't be good.
Guna you were here,
A year ago today.
What did you feel?,
Lying there on that bed?.
Did you feel the love?.
Of all those who visited,
To feel close to you.
There was a recent talk,
On a podcast I heard.
A hospice doctor say,
Death is progressive sleep.
This being science,
How was your sleep?,
This day a year ago.
Did you dream of
The same day in 1984?.
You rode your bike,
Found us walking,
Took me on the back,
Safely home.
Did you dream,
Of your loved one?.
My big sister,
Your first and last love.
In your dreams,
Did you spread your wings?.
As a shield of love,
Around her.
Wowing to protect
Her in spirit,
Forever and ever.
Did you dream,
Of your children,
And theirs?
Remembering their births,
And all their firsts.
The love you had for them,
Your heart aching,
To say your goodbye.
For you had not yet seen
Much more of their lives.
Did you dream,
Of your two lives?.
The one in India,
And the other in Australia.
Did you dream,
About the distance to your family
Back in India,
Fly over land and sea,
And sprinkle some Guna fairy dust,
In your dream.
This day is significant,
So here I am,
Waiting for a flight,
To take me to your love,
My Big Sister.
To be with her this day,
And remember you.
Celebrate the life you lived,
Maybe share the grief,
She feels of your loss.
For my Big Sister
Dear Guna,
Your first and last love,
Misses you a lot.

P.S
This is dedicated to my Big Sister. She lost her first love a year ago today – a year of grief and sadness, of loss and of connection, to her first love.
For anyone grieving, may you find peace in the memories of your loved ones lost, celebrating their life here in the body, and feeling their spirt near always.
