Rainy days soothing to my soul

As I get ready for my morning,
The rain outside,
Sounds varying,
Depending on where it lands,
Music to my ears,
Soothing to my soul.

I reflect,
On rainy days,
Filling my soul
With joy;
I often hear,
The "miserable",
Description of a rainy day.

I reflect,
On the origins.
My days of youth,
Sitting by the window,
Looking outside,
People with umbrellas,
Getting on with their day.

The street of our Daddy's home,
Would fill up with water;
Especially in the monsoon season,
Gum boots would be needed,
To get to school.
I recall,
Making paper boats;
Letting them float,
Not too far,
Not to pollute,
Our game, child play.

These memories,
I treasure
As happy ones.
Any rainy day,
Reminds me of those,
Happy days.
My body and soul,
Fill with joy;
Hearing rain drops,
Making music;
From light drops,
To heavy ones;
As it hits the roof,
The pergola, the deck
The cars parked outside,
The swoosh sound,
From cars driving past.

The air smells beautiful,
The sights a sensory load;
Roads wet,
Rain drops on leaves,
Birds shaking off the wet,
Flying again,
To their next destination,
After taking cover,
From the rain.

Rain can be a disruption,
To a planned day.
Traffic may be heavier,
Roads maybe more chaotic,
Public transport too.

The planned journey,
To destinations,
Changes on a rainy day.
By walk, run, trains, automobiles
Even planes.

This change,
To our plans,
Outside of our control.
Though we can influence,
Our view of the day,
While we journey
The middle of our day.

Taking a moment to admire,
The rain, no matter where we are;
Can we call it joyful,
Rather than miserable?

Can we reflect and celebrate,
At the end of our day,
What we achieved
Despite the rain
That may have disrupted
The starting plan
Of our day.

Meanwhile,
Though my routine has changed,
For my plan for the start,
Has had to become flexible;
I write this poem,
Listening to the sounds
Of rain drops;
Falling soft,
Falling hard,
Making music,
Soothing to my ears,
The smells of the air,
And sights outside,
Filling my soul,
With joy and calm.
